EPoSS SessionsEPoSS Session I: Investing in Smart Systems: Strategies, Competences, Opportunities, Financing & Funding
11 March 2015, 10:45 – 12:25
The development and introduction of Smart Systems presents opportunities for growth across the whole economy. But the strategies and competences to unlock these opportunities will be different from sector to sector, and also according to the position of organisations in the value chain. To help navigate this huge field and to pinpoint actions specific to an organisation, the EXPRESS Coordination Action has analysed and distilled over 70 Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) documents to reveal a multitude of Smart Systems related product, process, equipment, service and infrastructure opportunities in relevant sectors of the European economy, such as ICT, production, energy, transport, environment and the bio economy. This work also reveals the technology challenges of Smart Systems, as well as the drivers and barriers for their adoption.
In this session we will show how the findings of this "Augmented SRA" can support a customised strategy and implementation plan for any organisation. We will also show how private investment as well as European, national and regional public funding are responding to the opportunities and challenges presented by Smart Systems, and we will unveil a tool for Smart Systems players to promote and share their competences in the field and hence become more attractive for business partners and investors. EPoSS Session II: Smart Systems Integration in the JTI ECSEL and Horizon 2020 Work Programmes: Bridging the Gap between Components and Products
11 March 2015, 13:30 - 15:35
Smart Systems and the methods of their integration are key enabling technologies for a wide variety of applications, e.g. in the Internet of Things as well as for sensor based electronic systems in the domains of Industry 4.0, transport innovations, environment and climate actions, security, food and water supply. Therefore Smart Systems Integration is the subject of a substantial thematic pillar of the Joint Technology Initiative on Electronic Components and Systems for European Leadership as well as other parts of the Horizon 2020 work programmes of the European Commission.
This session will discuss the underlying strategies, structure and framework conditions and provide hands-on orientation to the EPoSS community on current and future opportunities for the funding of research and innovation in the context of ECSEL, in Horizon 2020 ICT Work Programmes and in EURIPIDES².
