Background

Applied Micro-Nano-Bio Systems has been an important priority of EPoSS ever since the formation of EPoSS. In the past, roadmaps, Strategic Research Agendas and input to the EC's Work Programmes have been developed and provided by the members of the Medical Technologies and Key Technologies WGs of EPoSS.

It has however become more and more clear in the past year that the critical issue in MNBS is putting research results into marketable products. Since at the same time, the MNBS Cluster, a community of organizations that are involved in EU funded research projects on MNBS, has started looking for closer links to industrial partners in this field, it was decided in EPoSS to set up a special Working Group on MNBS in order to speed up the process and put more emphasis on the topic.

For the MNBS community as well as for the European Commission, EPoSS offers a series of advantages in this context, namely:

1) Provide a “home” for the MNBS community:

  • include MNBS community in the EPoSS network
  • assist in the exploitation and commercialization of MNBS
  • collect and communicate MNBS research priorities / roadmaps
  • provide input to Work Programme
  • provide interface to the COM

2) Accompany proposal process for MNBS community

  • assist in consortium building and business links
  • Include MNBS even more visibly in EPoSS Proposers’ Days

3) Continue the tradition of yearly events for MNBS community

4) Provide cooperation opportunities with other ETPs and organisations
