Call for Papers: Wearable Devices for the Monitoring and Treatment of Chronic Diseases

Researchers are invited to submit research articles which address the new research and development of wearable devices, which can be used for the monitoring and treatment of patients suffering from chronic diseases.

Call for Papers

Today, a chronic disease is a major factor affecting the quality of life of many people and the cost of healthcare. The treatment of chronic disease changed dramatically in the last two decades, since new patient management approaches have been introduced based on the continuous telemonitoring. The quality of life of patients has changed since they can live a normal life, not affected by frequent visits to the doctors. The new approaches are cost effective and provide the doctors with more accurate and reliable data. However, issues such as efficiency, ergonomics, data processing, and decision making must be addressed. The introduction of such systems in real life requires also evaluation of the systems and extended clinical trials.

We invite researchers to submit research articles which address the new research and development of wearable devices, which can be used for the monitoring and treatment of patients suffering from chronic diseases. Of particular interest to us are papers which consider a set of sensors, algorithms for physiological signal processing, collection of environmental data, data fusion, detection and quantification of symptoms, decision support for the medical doctors, and communication of the patient with the doctor. All systems must be accompanied by a description of their validation and trials on patients in real conditions. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Body area networks
  • New sensors
  • Signal processing
  • Data fusion
  • Intelligent information systems
  • Integrated monitoring and treatment systems
  • Best practices

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/ijta/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/ according to the following timetable:
