New Publication: ICT for Societal Challenges

The second edition of the booklet, presenting the latest developments in EU-funded ICT research and innovation, reflects the way ICT currently helps in addressing and solving societal challenges: a powerful mix of continuity and new initiatives that leads to concrete results through multidisciplinary solutions.

Thanks to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), solutions that are or will soon become reality will make it possible to provide everyone, regardless of their location, with better and personalised healthcare, whilst at the same time delivering cost savings for patients and society at large. Citizens and business interactions with public authorities will be faster and more effective, including across the borders. For our ageing population, a greater number of people will be able to live safely and independently. ICT will also help tackling environmental issues, such as energy efficiency and greener transport, in the perspective of a sustainable growth. Last but not least, continuous research and innovation will help to build a secure and trustworthy society, enabling citizens to manage and protect their identities and personal data when they interact in the networked digital society.
