This workshop will bring together experts and stakeholders to refine ideas for future Network Technologies and Internet of Things (IoT) research and innovation that will be part of the Horizon 2020 Work Programme 2016-2017. The Workshop will take place in Brussels, 29-30 September 2014.

A consolidated view of the online consultation contributions received during April- June 2014 will be presented together with complementary views from the NetWorld2020

European Technology Platform and the network technologies/IoT projects' clusters.

Network technologies and IoT renowned experts from industry and academia will also be invited to present and debate their ideas on six thematic strands.The workshop will address:

  • Priorities for the next work programme in relation to the implementation of the 5G PPP
  • Priorities for the next work programme in relation to network technologies not covered by the 5G PPP, i.e. beyond roadmap based research
  • Priorities for the next work programme in relation to Internet of Things Technologies.

Contributions to the workshop are invited to also highlight those issues that should be implemented as research actions and under an innovation umbrella.

Day 1, 29 September

09:30 – 10:00: Introduction & objectives, European Commission
10:00 – 10:15: Coffee Break
10:15 – 17:30:  Parallel Thematic Strands (including 90 mn lunch break):

  1. Radio (architecture, technologies, mm-waves)
  2. Network management (security, big data for network management, energy efficiency)
  3. Internet of Things (IoT)


Day 2, 30 September


09:00 – 16:30: Parallel  Thematic Strands (including 90 mn lunch break and coffe breaks):

  1. Optical technologies (core, access)
  2. Experiments, test beds and demonstrations (5G focus)
  3. SDN/NFV/Internet architectures

16:30 – 18:00: Plenary conclusions and Wrap up
