EPoSS Sessions at SSI 2016

EPoSS Session I: Strategies and Opportunities for Smart Systems Research in Horizon2020

9 March 2016, 11:00 – 12:40

Smart Systems and their integration provide a multitude of functionalities that are fundamental for growth in a multitude of industrial sectors.
Although Smart Systems Integration is often geared towards specific applications, the underlying materials, technologies and manufacturing processes are generic and a matter of continuous improvement. According to the Strategic Research Agenda of EPoSS, the evolution of Smart Systems can be described in a generation model ranging from sensing, processing and actuation to human-like perception and autonomy. In this session, the recent strategic recommendations of EPoSS will be presented, and opportunities for implementation through the Horizon 2020 work programs will be discussed.

EPoSS session II: Smart Systems Integration in the JTI ECSEL

9 March 2016, 13:40 – 15:20

Smart Systems and the methods of their integration are key enabling technologies for a wide variety of applications, e.g. in the Internet of Things as well as for sensor based electronic systems in the domains of Industry 4.0, transport innovations, environment and climate actions, security, food and water supply. Therefore Smart Systems Integration is the subject of a substantial thematic pillar of the Joint Undertaking on Electronic Components and Systems for European Leadership (ECSEL). This session will discuss the strategies, structure and framework conditions underlying ECSEL and provide hands-on orientation to the EPoSS community on current and future opportunities for the funding of research and innovation in the context of ECSEL. Chair: Wolfgang Gessner, EPoSS e.V., VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH, Germany
