Joint EC/EPoSS Expert Workshop "Smart Systems for the Full Electric Vehicle"

by vandervorst last modified 14-11-2008 05:23 PM

European Commission, Brussels, 25-26 June 2008

Growing concerns about public health and global warming are calling for zero-emission road transport.

Electric vehicles (EV), due to their zero local and potentially minor global emissions, are considered the cleanest option. Of even higher concerns is the perspective on global primary energy savings offered by EVs. Leveraging mass use of this technology however is currently facing several weaknesses amongst which are: limited driving range, high cost and overall limited efficiency.

For the most part of these issues, solutions may be found on the level of the subsystems for energy storage, electric power train, and energy management. Like demonstrated for the internal combustion engine, it can be expected that smart systems are key enablers for the required gain in performance.

The goal of this workshop is to create a comprehensive vision of the technology needs for electric vehicles with a particular focus on “smart systems”, and to derive strategies that may serve as a roadmap for car makers, automotive supply industry, academia and public authorities.

The workshop will consist of keynote speeches and five consecutive round table discussions each opend by a dedicated impulse speaker. In addition, experts will be given the opprtunity to make short statements (2 slides, 3 minutes) on the role of smart systems for topics of the respective round tables.

Organisers:

The EPoSS Working Group Automotive and DG Infso of the European Commission.
